Dr Greg Carter

About Dr Greg Carter, Medical Acupuncturist & Practicing GP

As a qualified doctor and accredited medical acupuncturist, I split my time between my NHS GP work and my private acupuncture practice in Macclesfield.

I’ve been practicing medicine since 1987 and acupuncture since 1995. I gained the British Medical Acupuncture Society’s highest qualification, the Diploma, in 2003. This unusual blend of medical and acupuncture expertise means I can give you both an accurate diagnosis and a safe course of treatment. Having the Diploma also means that most private health insurers recognise me as a provider.

I enjoy treating people whose symptoms make it difficult to live life to the full, and helping them get back to a more normal life.

MBChB – Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery
MRCGP – Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners
DRCOG – Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
DCH – Diploma in Child Health
DipMedAc – Diploma in Medical Acupuncture

Accreditation and Regulation

I am a member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS).

BMAS membership is open only to registered medical practitioners who practice acupuncture alongside conventional medicine. All members are subject to the BMAS Code of Practice and Complaints Procedure, and are regulated by the General Medical Council.

For more information please visit the BMAS website.

I am also, of course, fully insured.

Keeping up to date

We’re learning more and more about how acupuncture works and what it can- and can’t – do. To make sure I give patients the best and most effective treatment possible, I frequently attend BMAS courses on techniques, safety, and scientific research. In order to maintain my accreditation I have to keep up to date with a specified amount of training each year.

If you would like to talk to me about your symptoms and find out whether acupuncture could help, please contact me.
